How Does It Compare to the Book?

I've yet to see this film, but I have read the book, and I really loved it, and I'm curious as to how the story holds up when transfered to film. Has anyone read the book and seen the movie? If so, I'd greatly appreciate your insight into whether or not this is worth my time.

I, too, loved the book and was apprehensive about the film, but I must say it was very well done. I probably liked the book better, but only because I read it first and therefore discovered the story for the first time through the novel, and secondly, I'm not sure a film can convey the same kind of windswept prairie isolation that a well-written novel can. Films are usually better with fast-paced stories. That said, this was a very good film. I actually only watched it because I'm a songwriter and one of my songs was used in the film, but I was glad that I did and proud that I had a small part in a quality piece of work. I just wish they would re-broadcast it a few times so that I could collect some more royalties :)

I am a big fan of the book - and its sequel, and expected to be diasppointed in the film. It wasn't perfect: to really catch the rhythms of the book it should have adopted a more leisurely pace. However, it was a reasonably faithful and well-perfromed adaptation. Of course, I recommend reading the book, but the film exceeded my exprctations.

The movie ties up the all the ends.

The book leaves it up in the air whether Tom Guthrie will lose his teaching job over the fight with the jerk and his parents.
