Were the dumplings tasty or rancid do you think?

It never comes up in the film but I always wonder if the dumplings were particularly good or bad and that is why he can identify them.

The oil, texture, filling and temperature would all play an important part of course but was he eating something which he enjoyed or something he didn't like so much that he remembered it intimately?

They looked pretty good and by his reaction to some that he tried later, they were better.

As someone who lived in South Korea for many years, I imagine they were pretty good. I don't think I ever had bad dumplings.
