It clearly showed you in the end scene where Ned's is willing to go to prison for Rachel even when she killed the guy who molested her. Rachel had no clue why Ned wanted to stay behind because she was crazy herself, but Ned knew and consoled her to go and be with her daughter because he cared for her happiness!
Yes! It was so beautiful and sad but truly selfless, what he did.... I think he just wanted her to know how much he loved her and he basically took the fall for her so that she could live in peace with her daughter. It's unrealistic maybe but I can't help but hope that they got reunited after (if ever) he was let out of prison.

I wanted to hate and dislike Ned,but he's just naive and so silly that I couldn't take him seriously despite the fact that he was saying very hateful, strong words. He was just confused and lonely, and I was surprised to almost feel really bad for him.

I agree completely with everyone! I couldn't help but like Ned as well and feel a little sorry for him because he has some issues.
