I couldn't understand how it works..
OK, They got the box, the person with the box needs to do the dare, but who decides what the dare is? the other person or they decide for themselves?
And the question.. they have to answer yes or no or just take the box or.. what?

You are not alone. I just watched the movie and I couldn't understand the rules either. It was like a gimmick that they didn't even bother to explain.
Me too..at first,it seems the rules been the person with the box do and decides the dare..for example,julien have the box and dare sophie to say bad words for "b",then sophie got the box and dare him to urinate infront of the headmaster..when they manage or decide to do what the other person dare,it "game"..in their game they both did not want to lose..that's why they keep hurting each other,even when it is not a dare..julien cheat twice of the "game",first,he come to Sophie's place and second saying "yes" on the altar..what im confused about is that the 10 years dare made by sophie,then she send the box back to julien,its suppose to be julien's turn to dare..but sophie dare him by creating the police chasing scene..and there are more..
