Zhang Ziyi Starring In Part 3?

I read in The Korean Times that Zhang Ziyi would be starring in My Wife Is A Gangster 3, replacing Shin Eun-kyung, who's expected to be pregnant during production. Anyone know if this is true and have more info eitherway?

reply

Really? That would be a shame! Nothing against Zhang Ziyi but Shin Eun-kyung is the boss - noone else! They should just delay production for one year or so...

By the way: Who played the daughter ("Ji Hyun") in part 2?

Thanks!!!

reply

I've never seen the first movie but I hear Shin Eun-kyung was da bomb. I'll be ordering the first 2 DVD's soon. And honestly, I'd much rather see Ziyi head up her own series instead of taking over the lead of someone else's. Anyway, you'll find more detailed info in the following link...

Thanks for the link!

That's exactly my opinion - Shin Eun-kyung gave awesome performances in both movies. She shouldn't be replaced by anyone at anytime under any circumstances!

"My Wife is a Gangster" is an action-drama-comedy with some pretty mean violence (especially towards the end) while the sequel plays more like a rather mild-mannered action-comedy with a lot of slapstick thrown in for good measure.

If you like them both is a matter of taste, I definitely did!

By the way: Do you speak Korean? I'm also looking for the names of some of the supporting actors from "Sex is Zero" and "My Sassy Girl" for my video archive. They're impossible to find out if you don't know anything about the language...

reply

nah, I don't speak Korean. I have a bunch of online friends that do, though.

hmm... I'm not familiar with Sex Is Zero, but a lot of people on our board are big time into My Sassy Girl. We have a number of dicussions about the film and its star, Jun Ji-hyun. H-O-T!

For sure, they'd know more about what you want to know.

I too liked "My Sassy Girl" a lot...and Jun Ji-hyun, of course! She indeed is mighty cute!!! Can't wait for this new horror-flick of hers ("The Uninvited") to be released on DVD. Has she done anything else not listed at "imdb"?

PS: Thanks for your replies, by the way!

PPS: How do you like Vicki Zhao? She's my favorite Chinese actress!

reply

I've not seen My Sassy Girl yet but everyone says I should buy the DVD. Eventually, I will. Seems that Korean cinema really is on the rise.

Unfortunately, IMDb really isn't all that complete when it comes to Asian films, in general. They have most, but not all, of Ziyi's films listed, for example. So, I would think Jun Ji-hyun has more films that aren't listed, too. Still, I have to give IMDb credit for effort.

I've still not seen Vicki Zhao Wei on film, yet. :o

So Close is coming on DVD soon and I'll get that. I'd like to see both Vicki and Karen Mok and I'm already a big fan of Shu Qi. A BIG fan!

I like what I know of Vicki and I'm looking forward to seeing her, too. As for her new films, we're talking about Heroes of Heaven and Earth, Green Tea and Jade Goddess of Mercy. Our board is mainly about Zhang Ziyi but we have a forum dedicated to talking about other actresses (Vicki, Fann Wong, Cecilia Cheung, etc, etc), too.

You should drop by and take a look around...

Yeah, you really should see "My Sassy Girl", it's a great movie! I think Korean and European productions are the best available at the moment! Hollywood has sold out to big budgets, questionable morals and a ridiculous ratings system.

I already own "So Close" on DVD, as well. In fact this is the movie that introduced me, first to Hong Kong cinema and later to Korean cinema. Doubtlessly a very cool flick, too! Plus: The girls kick butt...big time! Vicki's been my favorite Asian actress ever since and my number two worldwide (after German actress Susanne Bormann).

I've applied for membership at your board and it has been accepted just a couple of hours ago. In which forum would I have to put my question regarding those supporting actresses from Korean movies?

Don't wanna screw anything up with my first post.

Thanks!!!

LOL!!! That's cool!

You can talk about all Asian Actresses and their films in the following link:

What do you think of Karen Mok from So Close? Other than seeing her in a recent AIDS awareness music video produced by Andy Lau, I've never seen her on film. Was she any good?

reply

Fantastic...watch for my post...my username is "Subzonic".

I can't help but like Karen:

First of all she's partially German (which is where I am from), secondly her character in "So Close" was born on exactly the same day as I (the 28th of October 1976) and last but not least she sure as hell knows how to kick butt. No doubt about that!

There were some awesome fight sequences between her and Shu Qi in "So Close". As far as this is concerned she is definitely far superior to both, Shu and Vicky. Karen may lack in the looks department (at least in comparison to the aforementioned two ladies) but she rules, anyway!

"Southern Crane" --

It would be helpful if whoever runs helloziyi would answer their email. Or is it an exclusive clique of snobs?

Same applies to ziyifilms.com. No response to emails. Complaint of that results in onre's emails being blocked/bounced.

Is that the sort of image such "fans" want to impart to Ziyi? -- that of the *beep*

False alarm... Ziyi mentions in her Diary on her website that her starring in the third film is just a rumor. :\

In an interview last fall, Zhang said she was offered the role but turned it down:
