Someone said on here that he was taped in the closet but in the re-makes it shows him being drowned with his cat!! Help???

They changed it for the remake.
Toshio ran into the closet when his father came after him (seen in the very beginning of Juon The Grudge 1).
It's not specifically spelled out in the movies, but Takeo taped shut the closet doors so that Toshio couldn't get back out.
Toshio's body was never found in the Japanese versions. Kayako took him over to "her side" in the attic (right above the closet).

It wasn't Takeo who taped shut the closet doors, it was the old woman, who lived in the house with her son and her daughter in law... In the original TV movie Takeo does not lay a hand on his son. Takeo thinks, Toshio actually is the son of his teacher - Shunsuke Kobayashi - (the man Kayako felt secretly in love with). After Takeo killed Kayako, he leaves the house to go for the teachers wife and leaves Toshio back. When Shunsuke makes a controll visit at the Seaki's house, Takeo calls the teacher on his mobil phone, saying that now it would be Shunsuke's turn to take care of Toshio. Toshio's already in contact his with mother then and before Shunsuke can leave the house with Toshio, Kayako kills the teacher and after that Toshio is gone as well... I really do suggest watch the 2 TV movies for yourself. You'll also find out, what happens to Takeo on the streets and some other little things...
