Cherenkov

I was just wondering...what happened to Cherenkov? I know they probably revealed it in the storyline, but I just got to Proto Merkabah and was recently stuck on the Song of Nephilim for a long time, so I forgot a large chunk of the story prior to Song of Nephilim. Can somebody explain what happened to Cherenkov after the Gnosis Cathedral? I completely forgot...
