They should rename this game 'Cutscene Episode I'

The amount of cutscenes in this game is ridiculous....some of them 20 - 30 minutes long. I hope episode II and III aren't like this either.

I just finished watching the cutscene collection on DVD. Nearly five hours worth of cutscenes. I was seriously going to look for the eps. II and III collections on eBay. I think the ep. I cutscene collection DVD came with Ep. II

If I have to hear "Yamo Be There" one more time, I'm going to "Yamo" burn this place to the ground.

So xenosaga cutscenes are 30 minutes long?

They're extremely long and very frequent. Most are only a couple minutes long each, but some of them can get very long. The longer cutscenes are broken up with save points in the middle so it doesn't seem like as long, so i watched half of a cutscene today and half of a cutscene last night. I think that was about 20 minutes worth of cutscene-age.

But the cutscenes are interesting. Some game, such as Star Ocean 3, give you frequent cutscenes that are basically "what are we doing now?" and thats it.

That's a horrible DVD. They cut out almost half of the scenes from the game. They even cut out important scenes, like chaos's introduction scene.

This shouldn't even be considered a game with cutscenes. It should be considered a movie with some gameplay.

looks like im in for one hell of a ride

There are a total of about 9 hrs of cutscenes in the game. The game takes about 40-50 hours to complete on average. So while it does have a lot of cutscenes, and yes a couple of sequences are over 45 min. long all together, the game play far outweighs them. So cram it.

The first cutscene was great, I agree, but that's exactly where there should be a strong opening cinematic. And there should be powerful climaxes as a reward for some achievement through the game. Instead, I got 30min cutscenes every time I walked 10 yards! (and pretty crappy voice-acting, but that's another topic.)

Other games with big epic stories still let the player reveal the story through their own interaction, but this production seemed just too in love with their characters to let the player do the playing -- no, sit passively and let KOSMOS and Chaos do that! The fact that they made a stand-alone movie to do just that -- completely cut the player out of any involvement -- proves this.

I think you're talking about Final Fantasy 13.
