Very interesting ......
I wasn't sure what to expect when I read about this movie but I was certainly not disappointed. I always enjoy "history lessons" and this movie had plenty of those, as well as "life lessons". Although there are some big names in the movie (see next paragraph) the stars are the Mother and Daughter.
The bonus, to me, was the scenes between Malkovich, Deneuve, Papas and Sandrelli. The ladies are three of the biggest names in international cinema over the last 40 years and Malkovich, of course, is Malkovich.
Speaking of Malkovich, I saw another thread that criticized his lack of fluency with the Portuguese language. I, for one, applaud his effort. I think he explained that he was not fluent and that he understood it better than he spoke it. I think his efforts were meant, primarily, to include the little girl.
As much as I enjoyed the movie I was very surprised at the way the ending played out. I'll only say that there was a certain amount of irony expressed considering the path that the movie had taken.
Well worth seeing, in my opinion.
