SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!!!

I'm playing the easy version with Ursula, but I can't get her to do an affinity attack. Her affinity is water, her weapon is water and she has a water accessory. Her meter charges FAST, and she has learned Affinity Attack 1 and 2, but when it's time to choose her method of attack, the affinity option won't even highlight. I have some other characters like that, too. A Satyr and a Gungnir(or whatever).
Am I stupid, or is there something wrong? If ANYONE can help me, thank you.

Only 2 things I can think of:
1) you have to charge the affinity attack by doing other attacks - combos are best. But you sound like you know this.
2) in the skill screen (within the school) you can hide options - did you accidentally hide some skills?

also, I see this post is over 2 years old :)
I'm hoping there will be a gladius II
