Could this be the best RPG ever?

If you're on this board, it suggests that you've played the game.

It also suggests that you're a fan of the genre.

We've all played 'em... Final Fantasy, Grandia, Shining Force, etc. But which one can truly be the best? Though there is no meter by which to gauge how great a game is, I can say that Skies of Arcadia is my favorite game. Ever. Through any genre, and for all reasons.

Compared to Final Fantasy, it's more imaginative in parts, and actually has more of a "fantasy" element. Whereas FF7 is dark and depressing through a lot of it, SoA is uplifting, and is actually a fantasy. The turn-based battle is essentially the same, with differences in magic and special moves... that's to be expected. So that's a tie. The FF empire is vast, and surely has an upperhand... that's why SoA is the underdog choice.

The story is memorable, the graphics (when first released for the Dreamcast) were impeccable and bright, and the combat was inspired.

Even if you don't agree that this is the BEST ever, can you see my points?

I agree. I love this game so much. It's been my favorite game for about 5 years. In my opinion, it's the best RPG =]
Hey did you hear about the sequel that's supposed to be announced in October? This rumor started in 2004 too but they never had any real info. Now they do so I'm pretty sure it's true. But making us wait until October for the announcement is just mean. XD

I love this game, so much.

It's in my top 5, easily.

Best traditional RPG ever made.

I will say this: Final Fantasy 7 is my favorite RPG of all time. JRPGs are my favorite genre of games. this is the only game I've played that I think may be better than FF7.

so, yes, in my opinion, it might just be! but I can't be too sure (FF7 just brings me back to a VERY special time in my life and is a game which I NEVER hesitate to revisit - though this one is definetly more difficult to revisit nowadays).

DEFINETLY in my top 5!!!
