Way too much hate

This game was never supposed to be GOTY material. It was in development for years! What do you expect from that. I hated it at first. I then played it again and really liked it. My only complaints are linear levels, areas that slow the game down, short game length, and only being able to carry two weapons at a time. Now onto the things I loved about the game. Hilarious dialogue, the many things to do towards the start of the game, the intro level (perhaps one of my favorite intro levels in any game I've played), the weapons, the Christian Bale outburst reference, the different ways to increase your ego, the finishing moves, the return of classic enemies, the combat, and of course Duke Nukem.

I agree. I just bought the game now.
I don't understand why they limited weapon use. Pressing 3 to throw a pipe bomb is not convenient. Pressing 2 to set a min trap is not convenient.
The ball punching and a few other things are unique and I like them. It is nice to see a macho game with a lot of nude babes. I am still shocked to see the golden girl statue up close. They even did a camel toe.

What the game needed was an open world to chill out in. Something like a free roam like GTA, but it wouldn't have to be as big. It could have just been a couple of blocks and be contained in an energy sheild done or something as an excuse for capping the limit of the box world. It could have had the strip club, bars, casinos, a stadium to drive the monster truck around and do some stunts, and have buildings contain little mini games to do ... Kind of like that PlayStation world interaction thingie or whatever it was called till Ps closed it. It would have been great for multiplayers, given a fun use for vehicles and left the game open to more repeatability than it had. It's a fre roam
That you just wonder back to Dukes joint to start the next mission, or just roam around Vegas wasting time, cruising for babes, visiting strip clubs, playing strip poker, shooting range, a pee contest lol, the possibilities could have been endless.

Who knows how long people have spent just driving around the maps in GTA or NFS games... And that's what this game really needed. Chill out and relax, have some free roam fun, Duke style...

That's a good idea, MyKunt...
At the least it could have maintained the non-linear aspect of all the other games. Making it checkpoint based is what probably killed it for most avid fans. Yet, for those not familiar with the old games, it's probably what aided in attracting young players to DNF by supplying the familiarity of say, Call of Duty and the rest of the modern FPS with linear gameplay and checkpoints.
