Deceptive

I tuned in to this last week here in Toronto, and was very disappointed. My reason for watching was the title which announced "Doc Martin", but to my regret the real Doc Martin (he of the marvelous bedside manner) was nowhere to be seen. I want my money back!!!!!!!!!!

This, and the other films, are the originals that the TV show was based on. So, its the TV version that could be said to be deceptive. Personally I prefer the film character to the TV one.

yeah, you can't really compare the Dr. Bamford "Doc Martin" to the Ellingham one. They're two totally different characters inhabiting two totally different fishing villages (which happen to look exactly alike).

I like to think of one as the 'parallel universe' version of the other.

I wouldn't call either version 'deceptive', but I can understand them both being called "Doc Martin" being confusing. I don't recall exactly, but I seem to remember hearing that the two movies weren't televised in England until AFTER the TV series had already been produced. Perhaps Clunes and Co. thought it was okay to reuse the title if these hadn't been seen in the UK anyway.

It'd be nice to have a soundtrack CD of Mark Thomas' excellent music from these two movies to sit beside Colin Towns' TV soundtrack album....
