Never to Air

Fearless was set to air in the fall of this year, then the mid-season, then next year, but now never. Jordan Levin (aka. The World's Worst TV Exec.) has ended it before it airs (a new record, even for him). He SAID they couldn't get it going and there was no Showrunner, but it most likely wouldn't have made it anyway. We can all look back on Glory Days, Birds of Prey, Black Sash, Maybe It's Me, and the other numerous shows that were never given a chance because they didn't deliver immediate results. Sorry for those of you (and myself) who were looking forward to it.

Atleast I got the pilot. But I sure would have liked to see more of the show.

reply

Does any one know why "Fearless" will not air? I was looking forward to watching it. In fact, I was going to start reading the books to get an idea what to expect.

reply

is there any way that you can veiw the pilot. i really would like to see it.

reply

how did you get the pilot i would just die to see it!!

I am a huge fan of the books and I was equally as thrilled when I found out that they were turning the series into a show. I was thinking along the lines of how great Roswell turned out, which started as a book series as well. However as time went on and I started finding out the changes they were making and who was playing the lead, I began to dread the premiere. The cancellation of the show only proves that there is a kind and just God that doesn't like to see top notch material get turned into commercialized drivel. Jerry Bruckheimer and c/o managed to turn something that was completely original and cool into another mindless CSI meets Alias clone. And I am not alone in my opinion, almost every Fearless fan will tell you that they hated what the show had become. I don't understand why they felt they needed to change the characters and the plot. If it was an attempt to reach an older audience then their first mistake was placing it on the WB aka Teen Drama central. Fearless if done right can become an amazing show that would definitely be on par with early Buffy and first season Roswell. The books read like a script, there is nothing to change, all that's needed is someone who is a fan of the story. Not some producer who wants to replicate the success of Alias and Dark Angel and let's not forget that Fearless came out before both of those shows. There's also the importance of a good cast I'm sorry, RLC is great and all but as Gaia, no I don't think so, and it's not even about the hair thing. It's just that she really can't play her, the character of Gaia is far more complex than that and they need an actress that can portray the overlapping emotions that Gaia is constantly faced with. I'm sorry for the long rant but this has been building for awhile,I just want to say thank goodness for the television gods and that the next time the story of fearless falls into the hands of a producer I hope their far more capable.

umm...correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't both buffy and roswell on the WB?

I was actually looking forward to this show. They had a very good cast lined up so I thought it would have stood a fair chance. As for those other shows on the WB that were cancelled too soon, I have to say that Glory Days was one of my favorite shwos on the WB. They finally made a show that wasn't just about the whoel teen drama thing and I loved it. Never really got into Birds of Prey and never happened to catch Black Sash (although I heard some great things about it) And I absoluely loved this years Tarzan. I have to admit that the storyline was a little lacking at times, but Travis Fimmel and Sarah Wayne Callies had such great chemistry and they made the show so amazing. I'm just really sick of tv stations cancelling shows before they fully develop a following. It seems like the WB and Fox are the two stations that do that the most and It always happens to be the shows that I fall in love with

i loved birds of prey and have the whole thing on tape, i wish they would put out a dvd. i also saw 1 episode of black sash and i really liked it. unfortunatley they always cancel the good ones so that they can make way for shows like 1 tree hill, which im my opinion is melodramatic crap. the wb is really annoying they make so many shows, then cancel the really interesting ones, and keep the melodramatic shows with cute, good looking ppl in them. it pisses me off

it's strange..Jerry Bruckheimer is an executive producer in it...
so it should stay alive...only becuz he's got an eye for good new serie/movies (Crime Scene Investigation : Miami)..well wat the heck...
the good shows never stay long...
and bad ones somehow manage to keep up

Fearless might have been good and it's too bad that it never had the chance to be good. But Birds of Prey was just awful--having actually seen that show, I know whereof I speak. Horrible through and through. Tarzan was the same way. Those are two shows that SHOULD have died on the vine but were given a shot anyway. This might have deserved a shot but didn't get it. That really is too bad.

I was looking forward to fearless. But the moment i decided it was something i wanted to watch i knew it would never see the light of day. The WB has a habit of letting the good ones go before they even have a chance to do really well [Glory Days] and then lot others that should have been killed at the brainstorming session play out at least until they could figure out some stupid slepped together ending and taint an awesome comic book series [Birds of Prey] but that's just my oh so humble opinion. I also kinda figured it wasn't gonna happen when i saw Eric Balfour doing promo for his new show. the wb may be home to some of my favorite shows but i swear the second those go off the air i'm not watching that channel anymore. And yeah Tarzan? whatever that crap was that shouldn't have even made it to the table at the brainstorming session. The person who came up with the idea for that show needs to be beaten and hung from his toes.

I live in Australia, so even if "Fearless" had screened here, it would have been on at like, 1:30am on Tuesday nights or something. My VCR gets a good work-out at our house, what with have to tape Buffy, Angel, The West Wing, Dark Angel, Roswell, The X-Files, Scrubs, Arrested Development... even Ally McBeal eventually ended up in the late night time slot. Nevertheless, I'm disappointed it's never going to air... it would have been cool. Perhaps they should've gone for a different angle... instead of being in the FBI she could've been going to college or something...

or even god forbide follow the book and hit the target demographic the story was written for. i know tv aims to get the 18 - 49 demographic or w/e but i used to be a huge fan of the fearless series... i was going to finish but due to school the last one i read was 31 or something.

there are plenty of books and plotlines to just take it straight from the book and put it into tv format. i was very excited when i feirst heard ferless was going to be made into a tv show but once i heard that they changed it and casted rachel leigh cook as gaia, i became much less enthusiastic. shes a good actress, but shes no gaia. and the fact they made her 21 instead of 17 and in teh fbi instead of in highschool and no other characters from teh book are in the show - takes a lot of the interesting/entertainment factor out of it.

oh well...

reply

And considering it's a JB production, it's kind of amazing that it didn't make it to air...

Also, someone mentioned seeing the pilot... Does anyone know where we can possibly find it...

reply

And yet, they continue to cram the half assed reality shows down our throats.

But honeslty, the "Gene for fear"? There is no Fear Gene.

After seeing the pilot, I wasn't upset at all that this show never aired. It was terrible. It had some great actors in it. Rachel Leigh Cook and Eric Balfour are IMO, great actors but the pilot was terrible. For once, I think the networks did the right thing by pulling this mindless excuse for a television show.

Yeahh.. add Jack and Bobby to the list of shows, that SO TOTALLY deserved a chance for a second season by the WB and were denied.. another serries, as you so eloquently said, that was canned because it didn't give immediate results..

I saw the pilot episode on youtube.com. I liked it. Rachel Leigh Cook was good as the lead, had the looks and the attitude. I searched for other episodes, and found out the show never took off, why?
I'm from the UK and can't think any show cancelled before it's even shown. It would have done well over here. It's similar to alias and 24, both shows were well received here. Several networks had the rights for the shows and they've been shown here continuously ever since.
Would it possible for a UK network to pick the show up, after all it worked with the muppets. We (brits) should lobby for it, I want to know what Gaia did during her teens, it was commented on a few times but never actually discussed. I would also like to see Rachael on british tv, she's a fine looking girl.

reply

I just saw the pilot on youtube.com, and didn't like it that much. I read a few of the books awhile ago, and didn't like them much either. The pilot wasn't similar at all to the books, and the only reason I would watch another episode is because of Ian Somerhalder. I might not even watch it then. Sorry to all the fans. I was hoping it would be good, and I think it had potential, but it turned out to be a dud.

reply

It was awful.

Rachael Cook is just about the most beautiful woman in the biz today and she is a decent actor, but in trying to portray 'no fear' she came off as 'no feeling'.

The script was insipid and the cast knew it - none of them turned in anything other than pay-check performances.

The cinematography was hack action movie/CSI rip off at best. The fight scenes were undecipherable.

The one scene I enjoyed was when Rachael was 'kidnapped' and the guy in the passenger seat shoots out her window and she does not even flinch. I wonder how they filmed that!

reply

But isn't the point of having no sense of fear is that you don't react as others would?

My guess was that she tended to be a little reckless and jump into things that many would hesitate on.

I wish they had given this show a try.

As for Rachael, I agree she is extremely beautiful.
