so the moral of the story is...

cheating is a good thing?

Perhaps the moral of this film is, "Sex with love is much better than sex without love. " I enjoyed this film. I thought that despite the scenes that may have offended, that the film had a happy ending and made me like the characters involved. I've never been to Chile, but this film made me think that Chileans are sophisticated and complex people who know how to enjoy life and are able to handle a great deal of ambiguity in their private lives. The consequences of adultery are presented, but in a light hearted manner that caused me to enjoy the film's satirical point of view.

The man who cheats does pay the price of lost intimacy, and I don't need to see him destroyed at the end in order to feel that he has learned his lesson. I liked the character played by the director, who seems to be more than just an average butcher, but actually a family man who somehow survives the sexual pressure he is under and manages to weather the storms of his marriage and heal the hurts of his past. He also learns to overcome his embarassment and talk publicly about his sex life.

The fling he has with his niece was very well done, and although it may bother some it caused me to believe that in this case, very little harm was done. Some may feel that this scene gives the wrong message, and I can see both sides of that. But if Sexual repression is a problem in Chile, then the director did find an creative way to address it.

Let me also say that I thought this film was very sexy in a good, light hearted way. Even though my Spanish is not good enough for me to understand all the words, I found myself enjoying this film as if there was no language barrier. The characters are charming and witty, as well as attractive and able to laugh at themselves. If this film is any indication of what Chilean film is about, then I am going to be looking for more Chliean films in the future. I also think this film is superior to many other explicit films in that there really is character development, and not just a series of nude scenes.

This film should be called "Sexo Sin Amor". There's just one sex intercouse with love in the whole movie, just one!

I dislike so much chilean double standars.

Please excuse my terrible redaction, english is not my native language.

It's not meant to be taken literally, obviously. The movie is a debate on whether the 2 things are connected or not. That's why one of the last lines is "What does it mean that children are born from love?".

Of course not. LUISA and JORGE got karma at the end.

ALVARO will always be a cheater. The ending made it seem like it was allright but he'll constantly suffer. He was so jealous about his wife that he even made up excuses as to why she'd have sex with a gay man. He's the typical selfish macho: He thinks of sex as something that satisfies him and him only. That's why he goes on and on about how cheating isn't wrong... until he's the one being cheated (so he thinks). His marriage will always be on the edge for the rest of his life and he'll always have emotional stress in certain situations. Actually, I think his wife would've left him had she not been pregnant.

Those 2 storylines were dramas with some humour in them, while the storyline of EMILIO & MACA was just a low brow farce, which is why you shouldn't analyze it.
