Shutter Island

There are way too many similarities in this movie to Shutter Island for it to be a simple coincidence. The writers of this movie must have read the Shutter Island novel.

Actually Shutter Island the novel was being written and was published the same year that Madhouse was being shot. The script was sold for Madhouse in 2002 and filmed in 2003 and we posted it so it could be released in 2004. Though I am as surprised as you are by how much the projects are alike - I can assure you that it is probably just a coincidence. I hardly think that Scorsese needs to steal material and it would not be possible for us to do so since we did our project first. I agree though - its a kick in the pants.

Yes it is amazing on how similar this and Shutter Island is! The thing is that you guys created this long before Shutter Island was conceived though and you have to take pride about that.

I agree completely! I saw Madhouse sometime last year and just saw Shutter Island last night. Someone had already ruined the twist for me, and I couldn't believe how many similarities the two movies share, although Shutter Island is obviously bigger budgeted and stronger acting-wise. Madhouse definitely freaked me the hell out, however, and I was pleasantly surprised that Shutter Island works on a totally different level of terror, while Madhouse is horror. Great movies, both.

& I thought I was the only one who saw the similarities..

Another similar film is Session 9.

I noticed the similarities because I watched Shutter Island and never heard of this film before to be honest until I clicked on Demand on Comcast and found out about it. I watched it and totally loved the film!

I went a few years ago jenna4155 with a friend of mine to watch Shutter Island and I thought that film was strange when I first went to see it. It was done very well like you said, but you have to also remember that Martin Scorssese directed Shutter Island and had more people with larger names than what Madhouse did even though there were some names that I remember doing other works in films and TV shows. I would like to say that I enjoyed Madhouse due to more horror effects mentally in the film to be honest with you.

I expected more people posting about the similarities....both were great movies, but Madhouse has an edge if only for starring the amazing Lance Henriksen. But I have to say I've never given Leonardo enough respect as an actor...he's actually above average by Hollywood standards.

I totally loved watching Madhouse and thought it was great for a horror film! I admit that when I first watched over a year or so ago Shutter Island I was not a big fan of the film, but I guess my tastes have changed though now. I rather enjoyed watching Madhouse and thought it was a bit creepy. It was great to see that one actor who I have not seen in ages. I cannot remember his name, but he was in a lot of films back in the 80's and was on Teen Wolf and Teen Wolf Too. He even starred with Jennifer Aniston when she was a no name prior to Friends. They worked together in Leprechaun.
