Modest Mouse isnt that good (Flaming Lips Forever)

I came to this messageboard to check out the progress on "Christmas On Mars" and most of the posts our about Modest Mouse and Isaac Brook. Seriously though, the F-Lips blow modest mouse out of the water. Modest Mouse is nothing but a cheap imitation of Built to Spill with poorer musicians. The F-Lips are their own breed. So if anyone disagrees, debate me your arguement and I'll tell you why your wrong. So bring it bitches.

it's isaac brock, and yes the flaming lips are better,
but you sound like a complete idiot.

it was actually because you compared modest mouse to built to spill

reply

Have you ever listened to Built To Spill?

That whole northwest Indie rock scene including Death Cab and Modest Mouse owe their whole career to Built To Spill.

nevermind, you obviously know your *beep*

I'm sorry, remind me again why every band has to be compared to every other band?

I had always thought it was to take all the fun out of music, but now saying that out loud it sounds ridiculous, because who would want to do that?

It's silly to attempt to compare a progressive, innovative Indie rock band like MM with a progressive, innovative rock band like the Flaming Lips because they both have managed to create their own distinct, original sound. I personally prefer MM because I think their first three albums (This Is A Long Drive..., Lonesome Crowded West and Moon & Antarctica) to be absolutely amazing in their lyrical brilliance and the bands ability to coalesce aggravated, brash sounds with soulful, melancholic ones. Brock is an amazing lyricist and singer and his music is just so inpsiring to me. Modest Mouse happens to be my favorite band however, which is why I prefer them over The Lips, but that doesn't imply I don't dig their stuff as well; very groovy, space-obsessed funk rock.

I can't argue that Modest Mouse is better or worse than Flaming Lips because they both kick a**. But saying that MM is nothing but a cheap imitation of Built to Spill is flat-out blasphemous, if not downright retarded. Built to Spill also kicks a**. These three bands are all completely different and there is no point in comparing them. Personally, I prefer MM, then FL, then BtS. But I still acknowledge all of their greatness (including Spill's early influence) and I won't diss on anyone who thinks otherwise.

Modest Mouse sucked after The Moon & Antartica, While the Flaming Lips just keep getting better.

Modest Mouse CHANGED after M&A. Don't give me that stupid indie bullsh*t. The new stuff is different. If you don't like it, that's fine. Frankly, it's much more musically inventive and theoretically advanced than their old stuff, and I happen to be enjoying their ascension. Yes, Good News confused the hell out of me, but We Were Dead pulled it all together. Good News is really underrated by the supposed "true fans." There are plenty of f-ing awesome songs there: Ocean Breathes Salty, One Chance, Bury Me With It, Satin In A Coffin, The View.

Give me an opinion instead of regurgitated crap I can find anywhere else.
