I really liked it!!

Maybe I am weird. But, I really thought there were great parts about it. The sound really made the movie. I have never been to a movie and felt like I was experiencing something. I mean I thought that it was done very well considering how it was made and the set and everything. But the studio work was phenomenal. There were weird parts and ridiculous things, and not the greatest acting, but it was still very entertaining! I have no regrets about seeing it whatsoever! I wish I could see it again!

Any other thoughts?

I finally saw it last night and really enjoyed the experience. It was very fun getting together with friends and seeing this movie after all this time in a theater filled with a bunch of other Flaming Lips fans who were as eager to see this as I was.

I found the movie humorous, overall. But that was due to hilarious set design, absurdity, terrible pacing, terrible acting, nonsensical science/technology and other things that make watching B movies so fun. Many of my friends are film students and this was like seeing a student film, but a notch or two better in terms of production design.

The story needed work, that's for sure. There just really isn't enough here to warrant an hour and 20 minutes. Or maybe there is and it just needed to explore this story and this world in a little more detail. I think it was too long because there were too many scenes that cut back and forth between the same two images over and over again (i.e. the scene with the astronauts putting the light on the Christmas tree and Sirtis looking through the window talking about smashing moths; and the scene where the captain is speaking to the guy who's eye is bleeding - or he is crying blood or whatever).

I understand that the subject calls for stilted, depressed delivery in the dialog by the main characters because they are all losing it, but it seemed like no one ever said anything without another character asking 'what are you saying' or some variation, which demanded the original statement to be repeated. And each line was delivered so slowly and with so much hesitation, it was a bit too much at times.

And did the cranky captain have to use the 'N' word? That was pretty tasteless.

But, it was a fun time, like I said. If you are a major Lips fan, you will love it.
