Awesome

I literally just watched it. It was great. Much better than expected. Go to one of the screenings of it if it comes to your city.

I just saw this tonight in Iowa City and it was way better than I expected it to be. A lot of people were disappointed, I guess because they were expecting it be something other than what it was. There's people who consider good films within the hollywood, Citizen Kane context, and there's those that look outside of it. Don't expect a No Country for Old Men and you won't be disappointed - that is assuming you have some sort of open mindedness/flaming lips fanaticism.

Hmm, that's a bit off. First, most Welles fans hardly ever look TO Hollywood as a purveyor of "good films". Welles was a Hollywood anomaly for a few films before he fled to Europe and made some really awesome films. So, I would correct your line to read more like "people who consider good films within the Hollywood, _______ context" (insert whatever current, hipster director you want).

Orson Welles fans tend to be the ones looking outside Hollywood for "good film".

Christmas on Mars is a very independent film, and has more in common with the 80s underground films you'd see in the back of olden tyme issues of Film Threat (before Gore moved to Hollywood!) than it does with anything made in Hollywood, ever.

Also, you seem to imply that if I don't like Christmas On Mars that I am a lesser person, a fan of contemporary Hollywood product only. Well, I loathe most Hollywood films since 1980, and watch and love a ton of indie art films and foreign movies. I consider myself open-minded to film and art, and will even come around to the occasional Hollywood film if it deserves it, and I'm an old fan of the Lips. However, I didn't much like Christmas On Mars. And, yes, I "got" it. I just didn't like it.
