Is the format really 1,85:1?
I've readen it in the technical specs, but I'm quite sure having seen it in a picture close to 4/3, maybe 1,54:1... But not 1,85:1, and neither 1,66:1
Is anyone sure of the format?
It was shot in HD. Sony's CineAlta HD camera was used and printed on film in 1.85:1 format.
Did you saw this film in DVD or VHS ?
DVD can play both 4:3 and 16:9. (I'm not sure about VHS release)
In fact I saw it on TV, but on a channel which used to respect the original aspect ratio. But if it exists on both aspects, maybe thy didn't what was the original.
Anyway, thank you for this answer, really interesting for me. (And now, I'm disappointed I watched this movie in 1,54:1, because even if I like 4/3 ratios in general, the last travelling would have been great in 1,85:1)
