was O-Sei's dance Tai Chi?

Ok, I was wondering about this since I first saw the film. The dance really looked like Tai Chi, it was slow moveing, like the forms in Tai Chi should be, and I recognised some of the moves like opening to the sky, that I have learned in the Tai Chi class I go to.

Did anyone else think his dance looked like Tai Chi?

I'm not familiar with the dance names in geisha but it was one of them. In fact, the dance is what you'd normally see in cultural Japanese events. The actor for O-sei's character is an actual female impersonator (I'm guessing he's a Kabuki actor).

No, not at all. Some moves might be the same as a result of adopting several chinese cultural elements to the japanese culture in early history. But Chinese and Japanese were and are enemies, do you really think, a geisha would dance Tai Chi?
