About the bodyguard
I didn't get the subplot about the ronin (Hattori Genosuki) and the swordsman who beats him up... Is the swordsman a bad person? I think he was just doing his job.
shareThe subplot here is that Genosuke lost a match to the other swordsman and was humiliated by him. Years later, Genosuke tries to reclaim his honor by killing the swordsman. However, the sworsman is in poor health by this time. Genosuke spared his life, since such a kill would be without honor.
