Traudl’s reactions

There were so many great performances in this film but I found the Traudl actress a little too light and stilted in some of the scenes. For instance, one guy comes in to ask her to type up his will then she smiles and nods as he leaves like he just asked her to type a memo. She holds a deer in the headlight look at times which is vague and conveys no clue of any inner turmoil or even stress. Her performance seems flat from beginning to end with a few overdramatic outbursts. Since the film starts and ends with the real Traudl, this performance should have been as strong as the other actor’s.

I thought that too. I got the impression she was something of an inexperienced actress. I thought her friend, the other secretary with the slightly odd (but still pretty) round face was a better actress.

She had to play the young and naive secretary, which she most certainly was in real life. She did a pretty decent job of representing what the director wanted, a subtle way to express how brainwashed the normal German people were by this madman.
