Who was the covert cameraman?

Did I miss something? Or did they not explain the guy who was filming Evans character the entire time? I thought perhaps the police hired him to watch Evans, but then why would he provide the footage allowing him to be released?
Anybody have any ideas?

That guy was hired by Evans to film him outside of his "home". It was a precaution he took to guarantee that he couldn't be blamed for something outside. Because we eventually give in to his paranoia, anytime we see the hired camerman, we think he's working for the cops or some other malicious party. (of course, the music playing in those parts could have added to that feeling, can't recall it though)

Evans character hired him to follow and record him, which he says he does "whenever he feels like he needs a bit of extra protection." Like when he takes an entire day to replace the tapes from october that were stolen.
He knew that he wouldn't have the days tapes if he was faking the old tapes, so he covered himself with the covert cameraman.

OMG DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE
yes we did. go away.

Why did he freak out when the police asked him where he was yesterday if he covered himself with the covert cameraman?

reply

presumably because proving his whereabouts would have discredited his alibi for another murder
