Gratuitous sex scene...(spoiler)

Why on earth, unless I missed something, would she decide to have sex with Veil when the one thing the film has been very clear on is that no intercourse took place before the death of her mum and sisters. I understand HIS paranoia over the cops obtaining his DNA, but she knew who the killer was so why would she want his DNA on file when she knows he is innocent. Great premise for this film, but loses its way a bit. Final scenes were all over the place. Evans is superb though.

She intended to frame him for her rape (she also scratched her face with is fingernails) in order to allow her to have justification for her killing of him, and also by implication blame him for the murder of the psychologist.

And thus get rid of the only two people who actually knew the truth about the original Jasper murders & preserve the long assumed innocence of her father (and her own 'blood' as she put it).

I wouldn't say that the scene is sexually gratuitous either. What I would say is that the scene is a horribly cold demonstration of the abuse he has suffered over the last ten years & how regardless of his innocence the ease at which people will accept his guilt. The fact that they both retain all of their clothes and he is in tears during the scene removes, in my mind, any idea this scene was put in for reasons of gratuitousness.

I agree with theboywil, it was more a demonstration of his helplessness than anything, he's been working for 10 years to ensure he's "all alibied up" as he puts it, and she comes and destroys it within a couple of days.

Plus I think it's a good twist to see a woman raping a man rather than the other way round, it would have been too easy to finish the film that way.

Whatever reaosn she had for raping him, it appeared to me from the moment she stepped out of the darkness and startled him that she was destined to have sex with him. As evil or demented as she truly was, I believe she was strangely drawn to him, perhaps because of his absolute innocence. At one point during the rape, she actually says as much to him and gently touches his face. I thought the scene was incredibly erotic, all the more so because they remained clothed -- but you could see clearly she had her pants down while she rhythmically rode him. A close second to this incredibly sexy scene is the one in ENEMY AT THE GATE, when Rachel Weisz has sex with Jude Law while remaining largely clothed.

well at least we all know now that a woman can rape a man :)

With all the terrible trouble and emotional turmoil this entails.

Don't forget films like "Thursday" (1998), Eli Roth's "Knock Knock" (2015) and several others where this happens too.

Plus, why WOULDN'T it necessarily be easy to believe that a woman can do it to a man as well?

If a woman can kill a man, steal from a man, hurt a man, physically win in a fight with a man, manipulate a man etc, why WOULDN'T it be possible for her to also rape him in any way?
