When Katie forced herself on Sean

Did the word rape come into your mind to describe what was happening? I'm curious because I would assume that it wouldn't for most people, since it was a woman forcing herself onto a man.

Sean said he didn't want it, Katie replied that it seemed like he did because he was erect. I think that shows that there is an impression that men consent just by being aroused, and that's not true. Women can get physically aroused and orgasm while being raped (although, I've read that orgasm only happens in about 5% to 20% of rape cases, but it does happen, according to surveys), and it doesn't mean they consent, it's merely a physiological response. Rape is sex without consent, and consent is a conscious mental agreement, and that doesn't apply with just a physiological response. If the genders were reversed, and a woman was tied up while a man forced himself on her, we'd totally think it was rape without skipping a beat.

I know this seems like an odd thing to point out, but the double standard fascinates me.

In the UK, rape technically (as fair as I am aware) can only be committed by a man. However, what she did would appear to be covered by the Sexual Offences Act 2003, s.4 (Causing sexual activity without consent), liable for a maximum term of 10 years. Compared, with s.1 (Rape) where the man would be liable for a maximum of a life sentence.

I'm a woman and I thought of it as a rape. As you said, Sean said no. No means no regardless of what gender you are.

I live in the US and I saw a true story about a young man maybe in his early 20s who filed rape charges against a woman cause he didn't want to have sex with her and she made him.

This same question came up. Is it rape if he was aroused? To me YES, it's still rape.

Indeed, it was rape. Rape can happen regardless of gender, as snoopyusa confirms. This is the same in the UK, also.

I just saw it on ITV and was surprised to see they showed it in the original 2.35:1 ratio (not 1.78:1 as claimed on here, so I'll submit a correction) and loved it!* I'm off to buy the DVD.

*Never thought I'd say that about something with Lee Evans in it, but like when Lenny Henry has done drama, I can't abide their stand-up, but the drama is spot-on.

Actually, it is not. While we might regard it as such, it is not - as far as UK law is concerned - rape.

Sexual Offences Act 2003, s1. Rape - "(1)A person (A) commits an offence if—(a)he intentionally penetrates ... another person (B) with his penis"

A woman can be charged as a secondary party where she has helped a man commit an offence, but it is still the man doing the act.

I think in other countries the laws kinda operate the same way on this.

But what if we lived in a naturally moral society and we humans had one nationality etc, what would it all be like, and can we all organize it in a way that makes us all agree on it unanimously or?

The greatest trick the Devil has ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist!

Also, SPOILERS ALERT -

I love it how even though her character, SPOILERS ALERT, dies in this film, and I heard some sources suggest because she felt too bad personally after committing that act against him, but anyway...

People STILL debate on how much she will be able to be punished legally/by law for that act against Sean.

Now have fun debating if her soul can rest in peace or not and if God is able to forgive her or not for that act also, but who knows?

Also, with what was revealed AND that act, did you see Katie as a female VILLAIN? Or a troubled character who turned to dark sides? And VERY dark ones at that?

And spoilers, when she died, how did you feel, as audience?

Don't we all LOVE LAW? At least the CIVILIZED bunch among us?
