'Rigoletto' question

If we believe in the curse, then we can say that it caused Rigoletto's misfortune, but why doesn't the Duke, upon whom the curse was also placed, suffer as well? Are we to assume that he suffers because of Gilda's death because he supposedly loved her?

reply

Rigoletto came to believe in the curse, but the Duke was way too arrogant to think that anything can control him but himself.

I think it ultimately comes down to belief in the curse, and in karma, which means in believing it, that Rigoletto is twice as responsible for his own misfortune because he could have avoided it.

Okay, thanks. That is much clearer in the film.
