What is UP with the ending

Jesus Christ, everyone's problems get solved in like 30 seconds... I really enjoyed this movie, but the ending was disappointing at its best.

I was only really half watching this, and it looked as though they were gonna go into the trial or something, but no... instead the credits roll up the screen. What the hell's that about? Did they just run out of ideas and decide to finish it there. Awful end to a very mediocre film.

I think the all-round editing job throughout the whole film was poor - I mean, that bit near the end where that Jenna girl walks upto Josh's house, knocks on the door, they answer and then she turns round and goes "that feels better". I think I may have missed something there.

But I had to laugh at the ending where she's back teaching, a few months pregnant and all the kids had their arms in the air. Awww, such a happy ending. ;)

"We're making a film here, not a movie."

Why are the courts inclined to side with rich people? I mean, what the *uc* Any officer worth his badge our any judicial official worth....whatever they have denoting them as one would do what's right. Not what the rich douchebags say.

Neil_MC...

she says "that feels better" because she was raped the previous year. Her mom didn't want her to go through trial so Josh's dad agreed to pay for her college tuition. So returning the college brochure and acceptance letter felt good. :)

I agree, the ending was too quick. It would have been nice if we had seen a trial or at least an arrest of the kid. Instead, all we get is the other girl saying, "I'm pressing charges" and then Elizabeth Berkeley's character is back teaching. A happily ever after that came too quickly.

reply

I agree, it was such a rubbish ending but the rest of the film wasn't half bad. I'm probably guessing they ran out of money or film was going on too long?

They should have at least put Josh in jail or saw the court trial into the film.

reply

They didn't show it in the film but after Jenna returned the tuition money to Josh's Dad, Jenna testified and Christine Dawson got her teaching career back and yes Josh got sent away to a juvenile institution and yes while Christine Dawson was teaching, she was just a little pregnant and decided to go ahead with having a baby too.

reply

Pardon me for asking, but how do you know Josh got sent away to a juvenile institution? As far as I can remember, I didn't even HEAR anything of the sort at the ending. Also, since it had been such a long time since the rape (Statute of limitations comes into play), and the physical evidence is long gone, how can the audience be so sure Josh was convicted? One could argue that bringing the reason of recieving the tuition could be a strong case for Jenna, but it could be twisted around as circumstantial evidence.

I know they didn't show the hearing in the movie but Josh and his Dad had to go to the court room because they got a suppeena to do so.

Plus I know they didn't show it in the movie but we are allowed to figure this out. Jenna would testify to save Christine Dawsons teaching careers by telling the judge and others in the courtroom what Josh did to her. That way Christine wasn't blamed for what Josh did. I don't know why Josh's Dad paid Jenna the Dartmouth Tuition but, Jenna must have been afraid of both of them. However since Christine was able to speak freely with her husband and Jenna backing her up and her teaching career she loved came back, Josh got into trouble then and he was punished instead of Christine and was sent to a juvenile institution for trying to rape Christine at her home.

Plus in the final scene of Christine teaching at her school, Josh is nowhere shown there.

reply

True, that makes sense. Or it could be that Josh was nowhere to be found because his parents had him pulled out and sent him to another school due to the controversy. The movie doesn't really set anything in stone as to what happened to him, or imply very much, so...

If for whatever reason they cut the ending so short, the least they could have done was display a caption to the audience that explains what happens to Josh at the end.

reply

Thank you, I mean c'mon, was it really that difficult to show a minute of the trial, w/ maybe just some music and a title card over it saying what happened?! I mean, we KNOW b/c of what we DID see, but throw the already-bored viewer a bone for 10 seconds. Now I know why I hardly ever watch these made-for-TV sh!t-flicks. Jeez.

reply

I thought so too. After all the buildup to get Jenna's testimony, then in 2 seconds the movie's over. Didn't show what happened to him either.

reply

Just saw that movie last night on Lifetime Movie Network and I was disappointed at the ending. I don't know if the directors and editors were high at that time or just plain lazy. I was expecting to see the court scene and and I also wanted to see Josh, that lowlife predator get cuffed and sent to prison for what he did.

reply

I know what you are saying Travis that they didn't show the courtroom scene but we know that when Jenna testified for Christine Dawson, they believed her finally & Josh was in court since he got a suppena to do so & he would be punished since he is a minor to go to a juvenile institution.

reply

the ending of this film makes zero sense. Just because that one girl testified would not immediately let the teacher off the hook. The charges for that girl being raped are completely separate charges and have nothing to do with the teachers case. Not to mention the fact that she pleaded guilty already which means she waivers all appeals. Typical Hollywood *beep*
