If you listen to the conversation just beforehand he wants them to not use a condom which relates to his comments earlier in the film that he wants to have a kid but she has just started teaching and wants to wait. He says to do it almost as a way of proving she loves him and she rebukes it saying that he should stop asking to show that he still loves her.
The thing I don't get it given that she keeps refusing the whole kid thing, how did she get pregnant?

totally! i mean its all like "no babies for me" (and i think its cuz she found out she has the same gene that her mother had) and then BOOP!! she's pregnant with 'their' daughter, and not 'her' daughter?? Right before they started to have sex she said to put a condom on and he said plz no just for me and then she days noen at all then. Thats what i got from it. She wanted to make sure her husband was wearing a condom so she wouldnt get pregnant.
