Shane and The Popes- "Haunted"
Oh there are just too many. London Girl, Dirty Old Town, Fairytale of New York, and The Body of an American are among my favorites. I can't wait to see Shane and the Pogues here in New York on March 18th.
shareThey're awesome live - saw them in Birmingham, England on their Christmas tour in both 2004 and 2005. As you say, there are far too many great songs to just pick out one - The Irish Rover, Birmingham Six, Repeal Of The Licensing Laws, If I Should Fall From Grace With God, The Broad Majestic Shannon, Young Ned Of The Hill, etc. Have fun when you see them live.
sharePogues: Among them are Gartloney Rats, A Pair of Brown Eyes, Thousands Are Sailing, Young Ned of the Hill, White City, and A Fairytale of New York.
Several Popes favorites: The Snake With Eyes of Garnet, Aisling, Nancy Whiskey, The Donegal Express, Haunted
"I fell out of favor with Heaven somewhere and I'm here for the Hell of it now." - Kirsty McColl
I love Aisling, Snake With Eyes of Garnet, Donnegal Express and St. John of God's. Shane is an amazing talent. Say no more! I believe he is far more together than the media like to make people think. They have had him as nearly dead for almost twenty five years, yet he just did a sell out, USA east coast tour. So go figure!
shareForgot to say, that tour was with the original Pogues lineup minus Cait O'Riordan.... I was at the St. Paddy's day show in NYC and it was awesome.
shareThe Broad Majestic Shannon, White City, and If I Should Fall From Grace With God.

Popes - Victoria
Pogues: Rainy Night In Soho.
Popes: Song With No Name.
"Curse The Wind That Shakes The Barley curse a spade and curse the plow."
FToNY. One of the great modern Christmas songs, it never fails to make me cry. Great poetry, great melody, and a wonderful memento of Kirsty. I'm also crazy about "Fiesta" (hilarious) and "Streams of Whiskey" (inspiring). I don't know much about Shane & the Popes, but they did an excellent rendition of Streams on America's Conan O'Brien Show a couple of years back.
To chime in on another thread here, I don't think Shane is as brain damaged as another commentor asserts. I think he's just blasted all the time. 'Course I'm not a doctor...
There are far too many to choose from, but I'll just list a few:
-Transmetropolitan
-Streams of Whiskey
-The Sick Bed of Cuchulainn
-Sally MacLennane
-Bottle of Smoke
-Turkish Song of the Damned
-Thousands Are Sailing
-Broad Majestic Shannon
-Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham Six
-White City
-Rainy Night in Soho
-Rain Street
....Okay, so I listed a lot... whatever. Still, I like a whole lot more.
"Wake of the Medusa"
"Why don't you have another beer?"-Scott Stevens

"Misty Morning, Albert Bridge." Surprised no one else has this on their lists. Beautiful song.
