Connections

So. . . does anyone know if the use of Tak Sakaguchi at the end was just Kitamura's obsession with that actor or was it supposed to imply a connection between Versus and Aragami?

reply

good question... it looks like it could be AFTER versus, but he doesn't have any scaring around the eye, so possibly JUST before versus then? maybe this was his last life just before the events of versus, as you have to reason that he LOST the fight though, dont you. otherwise, he'd have to stick around wouldn't he? if he loses, it doesn't matter, he just gets reincarnated eventually...

otherwise, yah it could just be that he really likes casting tak, because he has been in a hell of a lot of his stuff... is it worth wondering if he'll show up in the next godzilla flick? hope i get to see the film, im looking forward to it.

Isn't the samurai opposite Tak Sakaguchi, Hideo Sakaki?
The ending is just another of there duels, as implied in Versus?

reply

He always uses the same actors for just about all of his movies go watch any of his films. Best example is Alive same two actors in the final fight scene in Alive are the same actors in the final fight scene in Versus.

reply

I don't think it's the same characters, it wouldn't make sense when you take into the story of Versus.

Kitamura is just very fond of those actors, it's quite common.

The best way to explain the ending is that, that's the way Kitamura likes to end his films. It's the way he ended "Down to Hell" and "Versus." I've also heard "Godzilla: Final Wars" ends with the beginning of another battle, but I haven't seen that one so I'm not sure.

Also, there is supposed to be a sequel to this film coming out sometime in the future. Kitamura is supposedly starting it when "Versus 2" is finished. So I guess we all know what to expect...

He's a man of habit it would seem. I mean all three films of his I've seen have ended practically the same way and same vague premise with the same actors. Interesting thoughts and a sword fight then, hey theres Tak Saguchi, Hideo Sakaki, and then Mr.Green Shirt from versus. I'm not complaining they have excellent skills in acting and choreography.

Although I do wish Kitamura would lay off the supernatural stuff and try a good ole fashion yakuza film.

If there's one thing Kitamura will never do, it's a good old fashioned film. He likes his movies to get you ewhere it hurts. He starts wit a plot that seems pretty straight forward; then he has a tendency to twist the story to make you question what you already know about the film plot; then he flips the entire plot at the end just to blow you away. I've seen all of his films, and I haven't been dissappointed with any of them.

hahahaha are they connected those two movies?.

nah hideo sakaki is the samurai's wounded mate at the beginning when he first gets to the temple i'd suggest this down to him and tak being close friends with ryuhei kitamura and willing to be in a film for 1 scene to help out, much like the bruce campbell/sam raimi friendship :p
