The Duel Project

I'm surprised no one mentioned the reason this film was made. It's part of the so called 'Duel Project'.
Director Yukihiko Tsutsumi took the chalenge from Rhyuhei Kitamura.
Each of them would make a film with the same budget and the same concept: 1 location, 2 persons, 1 survivor. May the best director win.
Tsutsumi made '2LDK', Kitamura made 'Aragami'.
I still have to see Aragami - I'll see it tomorrow - so I can't say wich movie I liked best yet.

You think "You" know about movies?

I represent the other opinion.

I have the feeling that the action of 2LDK isn't cut that well, while the fights in Aragami have a very strong, energetic choreography.
I allso wonder where all Tsutsumi's money went to. Both films were made with the same budget and 2LDK looks so much cheaper in my opinion.

That's about all I can think of when it comes to comments.

Aragami looked so dark. It didn't really show anything, so I don't think that need to cost a lot. I think Tsutsumi's money went to special effects.

I prefer 2ldk.
Aragami got really boring really fast.
2ldk looked cheaper but was more suspenseful and i liked the characters more.

Every where it says "1 survivor" ....... why?

reply

The "survivor" in 2LDK is the parrot.

Anyway, not sure where the budget from 2LDK went. Poor lighting, about a million super-zooms and horrid acting.

Maybe the money paid for the lft, perhaps? (Although without any ext. shots, it was probably filmed on a soundstage.) So where did the money go?!

reply

I think the acting in 2LDK was very well done. An I'm must say 2LDK is the better one for me. But I could understand that Aragmi is better for other people.
Perhabs 2LDK ist easier to understand for woman and Aragami easier for men.
But I'm too asking myself where the budget went.

I disagree with you, saying, that the parrot i the survivor in 2LDK, the name duel already says that it is a battle between 2 persons not more or less, so the parrot is actually no participant of this duel. I'm quite surprised that so many people here mention, that there was the rule, that there has to be a survivor, 'cause if that's the case, Tsutsumi has obviously broken the rules, although I thought that it was Tsutsumi and not Kitamura, who suggested this duel.
Anyway, a very innovative and entertaining project and nice 2-Disc-DVD-Box (at least the german edition).
I gotta give Kitamura for "Aragami" the edge.

Love 2LDK more. Great dark comedy, simple plot but good acting and pace. Not realistic but people can really relate to it (there are times I would really like to hack my flatmates into pieces lol). Aragami's samurai theme is just a tag cliche for me.

from where did you hear about the "only 1 survivor" rule? a lot of sites i've been to only mention about the other rules but this one. perhaps it's not one of the rules? imo it's kinda constricting to have this as a rule because it pretty much decides the ending even before the movie's made.. anyway, any info?
