The director 'broke' one rule....

SPOILERS:

The duel project was made with certain rules.
One rule was: "Only one survivor".
But, as we know, both girls get themselfs killed.
Does anybody knows why he "broke" this rule...?
It was a very nice movie but to me, the rules about making this movie where very interesting to me as well. So at the end, I was kinda surprised because they both died. Does anybody has more information about this? What did the other director thought about breaking this rule....?

lulu survived :)

I thought the rule was that at least one character had to die.

End communication.

Hey, look at that weird mirror.

reply

Well, what about the woman and baby in the bathtub? Does this not break the rule where only two or three actors could be in the film?

reply

I think it was 2-3 characters rather than actors, and it's debatable whether you would really consider them characters.

Then again, I could be splitting hairs.

End communication.

This is all Hitler's fault.

reply

2-3 characters. Wow, the director was really playing with his wording then.

Aragami (the other half of DUEL) had five characters total.

Takao Osawa .... The Samurai
Masaya Kato .... Aragami/Tengu/Miyamoto Musashi
Kanae Uotani .... The Woman
Tak Sakaguchi .... The Future challenger
Hideo Sakaki .... The Samurai's Friend

I would like to see the rules if anyone has a link to them somewhere....

I'm sure that once the producer (slipping on his name...) that got the director's to do these two movies was done and saw how well it turned out for BOTH films, he wasn't about to go "eliminating" either of them...plus, it was just a contest to see which director was "better", the "rules" were just guidelines.

"You are the Duke of New York! You are A # 1!"

reply

the parrot was the 3rd character i think.
the other characters didnt count because they were not shown in the movie.

the parrot was constantly watching the two girls fight and was the only survivor

reply

i agree!!!!!!!!!

what a movie, and only one set, the department!!!!

reply

To be fair, though, we only see three actors talk.

*SPOILER*

And the woman only talks after Aragami is dead.

*END SPOILER*

So technically I'd say it went through with the rules very well. Add to that we only see the Samurai and Aragami fighting, it upholds them perfectly.

One character MUST die, not: only one character can die.
