Why did Viktor, the chess club manager, kill Agnes. I know he betrayed Agnes when she played chess with the chemist and lost, but why did he kill her? I replayed the episode, but still couldn't make sense of her murder.
shareI guess we were supposed to take the team's speculation as to why the chemist killed her and shift it over to Viktor once they realized he was the one who actually killed her.
So the most likely reason seems to be that Agnes did figure it out and could ruin Viktor's reputation and what appears to be a rather comfortable position as the manager of the chess club. Maybe he was a jilted suitor betraying Agnes for revenge. The episode really doesn't seem to confirm anything, except that Viktor was the killer.
It almost seemed as though they had put in so many twists to the plot that they were forced to rush forward at the end, where they take the word of their prime suspect that he couldn't have known about the evidence found in his home, so someone else had to have planted it there. For me their instant acceptance of such a claim seemed rather odd considering it's the kind of claim you would expect from the guilty party.
As I recall, the deal was something like: the chess-club guy tipped off the chemist about the victim's chess strategy (sorry, it's been a while and I don't remember the names), and the victim was about to denounce him for this betrayal, so he felt that he had to kill her.
What I don't understand is the nature of the supposedly-secret information that the murderer had given to the chemist in order for the chemist to beat the victim. As I understand it, in a chess club (much less a tournament), matches are not only open but recorded and discussed in detail, along with "You could have done this..." If the murderer had some insight into the victim's chess strategy, I would hardly have thought that it would be some sort of secret.
