Gerry...........

Gerry is looking a bit unsteady on his pins, isn't he? He seems to have aged.

reply

Have to say Waterman has really aged over the last few series of the show.

In the pilot/first series, he hardly looks any older than his last appearance in Minder 13/14 years earlier.

Suppose age catches up on us all.

reply

He sure has , he had not aged much until series 8 , he aged a lot since . . Happens to us all .

reply

Only noticeable difference was his hairline.... but for some reason he is one of these guys who seems to have been balding for years, yet never seems to loose any of it (you can see it happening as far back as the Sweeney in the 1970's) and yet still has most of it up to the present day.

reply

He's 66 and his face certainly looks "lived in". Boxing in his youth may not have helped - I don't know if he smokes and drinks as much as his "New Tricks" character does; if he does, that doesn't help (nor could having been married four times?)

His obvious on-screen ogling of attractive younger women is a bit pathetic for a man of his age.

reply

I think he used to drink a lot in the 80s and 90s, he got done for drink driving twice. It's evident he does still smoke so his lifestyle may have caught up with him.

The world is your lobster.

reply

Oh, I like him regardless. : )

reply

I also like him. I'm old too. I used to be very pretty. Suffice it to say I'm not anymore. It's not easy to deal with, but one has little choice! I am glad this show featuring older actors lasted as long as it has.

Beauty is truth, truth beauty.

reply

Perhaps, but it's not fair to ourselves and others when we compare youthful looks with the later years. I know if I were to do so it would not be encouraging.

In Gerry's case he obviously aged over the run of the series, but for his age he isn't bad looking. At most we can say he has a very lived in face. Now if he looked like that and was only 40, that would be something else.

I did notice in late seasons Gerry's character seems to be reduced to a grumpy complainer without the redeeming qualities that used to offset the attitude. Jack was older and looked it, but Jack had a thoughtful gentleness about him whereas
Gerry looks more like some inner turmoil keeps him angry most of the time.

Of course I haven't seen the final season yet.

It's a pity there will be no more Foyle's War and that New Tricks doesn't have more episodes in each season of the original crew (with Strickland of course.)

reply

If you ask me I find him and Denis Lawson to be very, very SEXY!😀 I'm 20 some years younger than them and I just find them sexy. I love older guys anyway.

reply

I love older guys anyway.

I have to say, thank you for that.

reply

As do I , guy has lived , here's to him !! Still looks good for his age , still working , way to go

reply

His much older brother Peter Waterman was a professional welterweight but I doubt Denis did much boxing.

Actually the accent that Nicolas Lyndhurst uses is quite close to his real one so not embarrassing at all.....

reply

As much as I really wanted to love the new cast, I just couldn't. Two more days until Dennis Waterman's next to last episode - I have to watch it - and then that will be it for me. The new cast has been such a disappointment and I hate how they made Gerry into a grumpy old man. Will he get married again? Maybe to one of his ex-wives? New job?

reply

I met Dennis Waterman some time ago and he was a lovely chap chatting away with his then wife Rula Lenska.

The reason he appears so grumpy in this series is that he wasn't happy carrying on as all the others left, they all got on very well together and he felt an bit on his own. He agreed to do these last two episodes just so he could leave properly.

reply

Dennis Waterman is about my age. I find myself shrinking and gradually having to take more medications to keep going.

Mother nature is a cruel bitch.

reply

Jack was always the complaining one and when he left it seems Gerry picked up the mantle. My wife and I always brought that up.

reply

Please don't forget that as each season went on, not only did the cast age, but the quality of the film got better. So we saw him more as what he was in real life. Makeup can only hide so much in HD
