Why did Derek leave ?

i heard a 'rumour' that it was because hed been 'caught out' by the production team, someone left fake clues around a room and when Derek came into the room he was 'drawn' to them and made up storys about them. Yvette and Carl were left with no option but to fire him because it was someone outside the main team who had 'set him up', supposedly proving his 'fakery'.
like i said this was just a rumour so ive no idea if its true, has anyone else heard this ?.
i personally found him to be my favourite of all the mediums so far though.

He was entertaining, but yeah thats what I heard. They made up a name and mentioned it around set so Derek could hear, Think his name was something like Kreed Kafer, which is an anagram of Derek Faker. also something along the lines that they thought he was getting out of hand and was becoming overly-violent and they beleived his Possesions were getting more and more acted out.

I sisn't hear that but it is interesting none the less. I heard he was leaving when the London Live episode aired and the home base guy told everyone near the end that "this is Derek Akora's last live episode. He is starting a new show (the one that tanked !!) and we will miss him."

I thought it was so interesting as to the expressions of the other's faces when home base guy said that. THey looked kind of pissed at Derek and home base guy because he was plugging his new show.

I did also think that he was faking everything. But meanwhile I think yvette fakes things too. I don't know how many times I hear her say "what was that?" or "did you hear that?" when NOTHING was HEARD!!!

Derek was my favourite medium too. I'm not really interested in whether he was faking or not, this program is (I've only seen the first few seasons) brilliant entertainment and Derek has a style that compliments the other members of the team so well.

The 'Kreed Kafer' event, to me, doesn't necessarily mean Derek is a fake. Perhaps he genuinely picked something up but consciously interpreted it with the planted information ... I imagine Derek is just as affected by suggestion as the rest of us.

Also, this show is a business. It's possible that at times they fake stuff. Doesn't mean it's all faked. For example there was an episode where they were in a brewery and a cabinet moved and I swear I saw a lapel on Derek's jacket move at the same time as though his shoulder moved as though his arm pushed the piece of furniture.

I wish Derek would return. This show is excellent entertainment.

Derek was asked to leave by Yvette because She and Ciaran thought he was faking most of the time and set him up. Ciarian told him of a (fake) ghost and Derek was proved to be faking when he was possessed by the fake ghost.

Because he, like the show itself is totally fake & staged!

"Because he, like the show itself is totally fake & staged!"

Wasn't this the show that exposed Dereck as a fake?

Why hasn't he gone public? I find it very odd that if he know the show was totally fake he wouldn't have exposed it. Considering all the damage to his reputation it has done.

I've heard that somewhere else too. It is a shame that when people show their love for people who aren't Yvette and Karl, they are gone shortly after.

Apparently David left due to ill health, but I can't help but wonder whether there were a number of things, other than that, that were building up. (E.G Karl and Stuart refusing Psychic Protection, Karl saying he didn't believe in psychics, later he even used the word "Comediums" to describe all their psychics on his crappy 'Great' Unexplained Debate, which he just used to attack their former staff, especially the mediums, I was disgusted with him and he can never redeem himself in my eyes for it, and, of course, Yvette and Karl's "It's our show" attitude)

It's a shame, but I can no longer look at Karl without seeing his behaviour towards the mediums, he treated them almost like "Whoops, I've trodden in a medium". Despicable behaviour. Oh they'll tell you to question everything, but when you question the antics at Antix, there's Hell to pay!

Derek said he felt the presence of a lady from the 1600s (around the time of the Gunpowder Plot. He gave her name, but the subtitle said that she was a fictional character in a novel set in that house, based around the Gunpowder Plot. He was never challenged as to how he could feel the presence of someone who never existed!

Derek is still around but now doing tours so its good he still has work.
We went to see him last month and he got many stuff right about the people there.
He was fun to watch on most haunted to I don't think hes fake but may have faked some stuff on the show maybe.

What episode was it that he was rumbled and set up in then? Did they film and show it or was this all off camera?

Derek wasn't actually sacked in fact it was his own decision to the leave the show, apparently from series four on wards Derek wasn't treated very nice, it had something to do with Yvette got jealous about the popularity Derek was getting, as she thought she was the star. In mid 2004 i think just after the fifth series or something Derek went to america to do an interview and was asked if he was enjoying life on show it was said he said "Well I use to but I'm not so sure now, the show as certainly grew and some of the stars of the show believe they are bigger than what they are.." Apparently the interview was recorded but never heard because Yvette and Karl threatened the radio station that if they aired interview they would sue!, Derek also got threatened with legal action because he apparently he broke a contract role about talking about the show without Yvette and Karl's permission. In fact this went on for months, eventually Derek said enough was enough and decided to quit the show and of course was given his own series by living called "Ghost Towns" which sadly only lasted two series not because of poor ratings the complete opposite actually it was getting more viewers than Most Haunted! and because Most Haunted was living's top show they didn't want any other programme affecting that.

But of course in 2010 the show was axed, it was deemed to expensive to make and the viewing figures we're dropping off a bit at a time. The final Most Haunted Live to get the most viewers was Derek's final night which i believe dragged around seven million viewers, years on they barely got over a million!

Great thanks for the info there mate. I'm glad he walked if they were acting like a pair of over-protective diva's towards the show.

I still think Ghost Adventures is better though because they take more risks, don't have annoying members of the crew screaming every 10 seconds and they have far superior technology to Most Haunted.

reply

My problems with Ghost Adventures start and stop with the host. Zac Bragan comes off as an ex strip club bouncer/actor wannabe. The one thing that really gets to me is when they get evp's. They play the audio and video from when it happened, then loop it, so it plays over and over, almost like they were forcibly trying to ram it into your brain and make you agree with what they heard.

Don't confuse my dislike of Ghost Adventures as meaning that I like Ghost Hunters. That show was a giant scam. Overly scripted, it sometimes looked like they were reading cue cards. And they also shot themselves in the ass when one of their attempts at fakery was caught on camera during a live show. As the bald guy Jason was walking forward, a brick flies by, causing Grant to react as startled. What Grant didn't realize is that the camera caught him throwing the brick.

reply

Yeah Zac is a bit himbo-ish and clearly the wimpiest of the three who go into the places after dark. And I agree that the evp's that they play 3 times each time are annoying. Once or maximum twice is enough and it's spoon-feeding an audience.
I find also that when they think they 'hear' a ghost speaking what they actually put up for the subtitles is often not remotely like what a ghost is saying! Or it's too indistinct to hear any words they're trying to pretend the ghost 'said'.

Never seen Ghost Hunters. So I guess it's not been on in the UK before apart from on satellite perhaps. That sounds like a funny ep to watch though! And just looked it up and Amy Bruni and Kris Williams certainly look easy on the eye however!

Is Derek the guy who faked being possessed all the time. I watched this show once and I saw someone pretending to be possessed so I never watched it again. If that guy is gone maybe it's better now.

Yep that's him. He could win a golden raspberry for his ridiculous acting 'possession' performances!
I doubt the show would be any better now though because series after series they never invest in any new technology which would really make it more fun to watch for long-suffering viewers.

You look at Ghost Adventures with all its acres of tech to help hear or see ghosts and then you look at Most Haunted with just its 2 or 3 video cameras and you wonder why they're so unimaginative or stingy in never trying to improve their show for viewers.

Smacks of lazy apathy by presenter Yvette and hubby Karl (who are also the producers so have no excuse!).
