Why study gall wasps? And why a million of them?

Is it a pest? Is it important in agriculture, like bees? Does it sting? Does it carry disease? I'm not sure why you'd make an enormous study of them. What's special about them?

And why study 1 million of them? Really, wouldn't a few thousand be enough? 10,000? 100,000? I think he went a bit overboard there. It just doesn't seem like you'd ever need 1 million of anything to properly study it.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

Because they are all different and they have short life spans so it is easy to study their evolutionary process... And since they can't fly or travel well they are easier to follow than other types of insects.
