BAD CASTING

would have been much better if they had used someone besides tom hanks.

he's just too familiar of a face to realistically seem like he is a non-english speaking eastern european.

they should have used someone like the bosnian dude from layer cake or someone else of real eastern european ethnicity. it would have given SO MUCH MORE credibility to the whole story.

the whole time i felt i could 'see' tom hanks was faking it all (which he was)

it never came off as viable plausibility

and the other actors around him could have remained the same, since they were americans anyway (catherine jones looked fabulous in this)

evidently hanks had something on spielberg, or something.

coulda been way way better

ummmmmmm, no

the whole time, we know hanks is faking

no suspension of disbelief

you must be biased for some reason

Umm... Actors act... Also known as "fake." Yes, we all know that... Thus suspending disbelief, as a previous poster said.

whatever. i am glad you liked it.

IMO the 'knowledge' of hanks as an american didn't allow me to accept him as a non english speaking european.

you really don't get that?

really?

He's not a cowboy action figure either. The casting department on Toy Story seriously made a blunder on that one.

They should have hired some guy from one of those crummy old western TV shows. What a travesty!

your stupidity can be hard to understand I would expect it from an ape, but it is unusual in a human

Well when I first saw this movie, I really enjoyed it. And every time that I saw it again, I still enjoyed it and I never felt that Tom Hanks was "faking it". I think Hanks is a very good and likeable actor so that is why he was able to pull off the role without appearing "artificial" or "annoying".

However, after reading your post, I got thinking about it and I have to admit that you do make a good point. Casting an ethnic Eastern European actor might have been a good idea. He would have seemed more "out-of-place" in the American airport.

"Tropic Thunder". Not that I'm a fan of Ben Stiller or his movies, but I just loved the way Robert Downey Jr. says that line!

Imagine Spielberg would have done just that and cast an eastern European actor - who would have gone to see this movie then??? Sure it would have been more "believable" but not casting a known actor would have sunk the movie economically.
Tom Hanks is a BIG NAME and that was needed to get us in the theaters or rent/stream the movie! Admit it - didn't the presence of Tom Hanks make you want to see this movie???

Tom Hanks fitted the role perfectly
