All those who did not understand or like the French version maybe coz they r not used 2 reading subtitles need not worry.There's an American remake in the works, so u should see an English version in a couple of years.Just hope it's as good if not better!

Firstly, my reply was clearly tongue in cheek. So unless you are spending your non dribbling hours policing the IMDB site, I suggest you get a sense of humour or just mind your own business.
Secondly, the bare fact is that American remakes of European or Far Eastern films suck. You simply dont have the skill or attention span to understand what made them successful in the first place.
Lastly, please use a dictionary before using big words like "pretentious" out of context. The English Oxford one is best.

Considering that the OP was so happy for a remake simply because they did not like reading subtitles proves miktal-1's point. Generally speaking American audiences prefer "different" types of movies. And this is MY opinion but as a whole they do seem to have a shorter attention span when it comes to their entertainment. I'm not bashing or trying to stereotype Americans, this is just my own personal observations from living in the States for many years.
And I think it's a general consensus that Hollywood ruins most foreign films. Especially the horror/action genre. Name one remake that was better or even on the same standards as it's Europe counterpart. It doesn't happen very often.

That's not exactly what the OP said. He said, "All those who did not understand or like the French version maybe coz they r not used 2 reading subtitles need not worry." The OP, to my mind, was not trying to describe himself, but was instead condescending to others who he thought didn't "get it" because they weren't experienced or sophisticated enough to deal with subtitles.
I find it very annoying that some people can't accept that others might not like a particular foreign language film simply because they don't like the film -- not because they're lunkheads without the attention span or literacy to slog through it.
And it's bad form to talk about others not liking subtitles when you write "coz they r not used 2..."
12 years later - no remake.

Woa,Woa, Woa! My point was not to be condescending to anyone. But the fact is that if a film is subtitled, it'll have less access in America just for that very fact.Also a majority of Americans will pass on it simply coz they have to read subtitles regardless of the film's quality.
I loved the French film, thought it was 1 of the best films of last year. I haven't taken offence to any response to my original comment.My point was that American audiences who do not like watching Foreign films can now watch the English version when it's released in 2011. I just hope it's as good or better than the original version.

I have read the book, but it was several years ago. I recalled the basic plot line of the story, but I'd have to read the book again to recall details.
