Who can recommend similar movies?

The two best thrillers I have seen over the past 5 to 6 years were "Tell No One" and "The Next 3 Days" (which I prefer compared with the original version, "Pour elle").
Can anybody recommend similarly good thrillers?
Doesn't have to be French or American productions, but they should be very suspenseful.
Thanks!

Memories of Murder http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0353969/

Is that the one about the woman who starts working as a nanny for a man's son? That was really good!

reply

Nope mate , thats not the plot for this one. I think the one you might be referring to is maybe this korean thriller, 'Montage' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2969522/ . Montage itself is an enticing thriller you might wanna check , fits your criteria. I'd urge you to check both of 'em if you adore thrillers cum suspense.

I will check it out. Thank you :).

Headhunters (Swedish). Great thriller with a wicked sense of humor. Plus Nicolaj Coster-Waldau!

Right on both! Wicked smart.

SPOORLOOS and MAN AT THE LAKE, CACHE or anything by Haneke..
I love this genre and the Fugitive is one of my favorite movies
Both very tight very intriguing.

I was disappointed by "Spoorlos", but enjoyed the remake with Kiefer Sutherland and Jeff Bridges, watched it several times.
I will look up "Man at the Lake". Already have watched "Caché" with Juliette Binoche.
After 3 attempts with Haneke movies we finally gave up, we just couldn't get into it (the one with Jean-Louis Trintignant was awful!).

Thanks for your tips, Camoo, but I cannot find "Man at the Lake". Who played the lead?
I watched "Cabin by the Lake", a horror movie.

This is a long time after you posted, but I think the poster was referring to an extremely sexually graphic--but absolutely fantastic--French film, "Stranger By the Lake." You can stream it on Netflix, but be warned, nearly every character in this film is nude at some point, some, from first scene to last. All are gay (the story takes place at a depressing hook-up beach). It is nevertheless incredibly suspenseful and mysterious, and because of the isolated rural setting, very similar to "Tell No One."

The Millenium trilogy
Point Blank (french one)

I didn't know there was a French remake of "Point Blank". I watched the original version with Lee Marvin 2 weeks ago and found it rather slow moving. I was only interested in the Alcatraz scenes anyway...

The Millenium trilogy is excellent. We enjoyed both versions, the Swedish and also the American remake with Daniel Craig. It looks as if the American remakes (of part 2 and 3) won't be realized now :(.

We watched "Gone Girl", it was o.k..

reply

Oh the French Point Blank is completely different from Lee Marvin slow-burner.
This one is about a nurse whose pregnant wife is kidnapped by thugs who want to kill one of his patients.
Kind of silly story but you just take a thrill ride with the protagonist.
The footchase sequence of Tell No One reminded me of this Point Blank.

Glad you watched Millenium Trilogy already. I keep recommending it to everyone and most of them say yes yes I'll watch it but they never actually do.

Yeah, quite unfortunate with the remakes as I thought it was definitely more stylish than the original, although I found the protagonists in the original more believable than the remakes (especially Blomkvist).
