actual murderer never seen or arrested??!! spoiler

Help me out here, didn't the whole thrilling thing end with us never seeing triggerman Bingham searched for or arrested?? What became of him?

reply

Spoiler...

He was killed at the end of episode 3 I think - shot by an armed police response unit outside the hotel.

There was a bit of a loose end though.

One of the coppers mentioned he was shot without a shoot to kill order, which I took to mean that someone wanted him dead.

But it was never made clear who.

Martin, I was wondering that too. At the time, I assumed it (his being shot) meant that higher-ups in the government had ordered him killed so he couldn't talk, but if Stephen Collins hired him, and no one else knew, why was he killed?

reply

Exactly. The Gov't wanted this matter closed. From start to finish they attempted to shut down any attempts to find out the answers to this twisted plot. They tied the DCI Bell's hands as well as trying to shut down the newspaper digging into the matter. They made sure the boy was seen as a drug addict and were happy to let the woman's death be classified as an accident or suicide. No detail of the killing of the hitman at the hotel were made a big deal of...."guy with gun at a hotel shot & killed by police" case closed.
