Why is the sofa in Foster's office so torn up?

The brown leather couch in Foster's office has huge parts torn up and hanging down. There must be some story behind this......it's so bizarre.

It's a wonderfully distressed Chesterfield.

It's one of those wonderful British things; some things are best beat up and tatty and torn. No-one would dare recover a Chesterfield unless the arse was absolutely hanging out of it.

No. It's an old Chesterfield.

They go like that and the more battered and tatty they look the more that they are treasured.
