Please help me deciding if and why I should purchase this videogame ....

Hello there,

Being totally incapable of playing first-person shooters (such as Wolfenstein, Doom, etc ...) because I get really sick within 10 minuten, I simply HAVE to focus on playing TPS-games = third-person shooters (such as Tomb Raider, Max Payne, Splinter Cell and Hitman).

I recently discovered "Star Wars - Knights of the old republic" and its fantastic sequel "Star Wars - Knights of the old republic II" and I LOVED IT!!! It wasn't just a TPS ... it was captivatingly fantastic and it successfully made the already wonderful Star Wars saga even bigger and better. I plan on expanding the Star Wars saga as much as possible and THIS is where I need your help.

The questions are quite simple:

1) How great is the videogame "Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy" and its 2 (I think) predecessors "Star Wars: Jedi Knight" and "Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2"?

2) If I loved KOTOR and KOTOR II ... will I surely love these games as well?

3) Does it have many beautiful locations, original creatures and many breathtaking lightsabers such as in kotor and kotor II?

4) And most importantly: are these 3 games THIRD PERSON SHOOTERS like kotor and kotor II?

I can't emphasize enough about question number 4. If it ain't TPS ... don't trick me into buying a FPS, please! It's garbage for me. If one of these games should somehow have a little FPS ... it's ok; I guess.

But I have to be able to play as much TPS as possible ... otherwise I get really dizzy and throw up whatever food I ate. :-D

Thanks and I hope to be hearing from y'all very soon,

Bye for now

1) I only played the demo to Jedi Academy, but I thought that it was pretty good. My brother played the full game, and seemed to like it. As for Jedi Outcast and Jedi Knight, both are great games. Especially Jedi Knight, as there are so many mods and skins that people have made for it.

2) I haven't played the KOTOR games (even though my girlfriend bought me KOTOR II for my birthday), so I don't know. I personally thought that they were great games.

3) The series has plenty of locations, weird creatures, etc. As for different lightsabers, I would say no. But there's mods for that.

4) Jedi Knight, Jedi Outcast, and Jedi Academy can all be played as first or third-person shooters. Dark Forces (the game that started the whole series), is only a first-person shooter. However, there are some fans who have recreated various levels from Dark Forces and Jedi Knight that can be played on Jedi Outcast.

Just as a word of warning though, the lighsaber combat changed A LOT between Jedi Knight and Jedi Outcast. You have to remember that Jedi Knight came out back in 1997...the lightsaber fighting won't be half as great as Jedi Outcast's, but it's still pretty awesome and a complete blast to play.

So basically you're saying that I should get the most recent of those 3 (which is Jedi Academy) and work my way further into the past as I go along, right?

Because how can I like the older games if I don't like the most recent and thus best-looking videogame of this trilogy, am I correct?

Well, before you purchase them, I would suggest downloading the demos for Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast. You can get them off the LucasArts website and if you don't like them, you won't have wasted any money.

As for what order you should play them...it's all up to you. I would personally play the games in chronological order. Because if you've played the demos and then you went back to play the others, you'd already have an idea of how to play them. Jedi Knight is totally inferior compared to Jedi Outcast, but it's still a great game. Think of it as the original Super Mario Brothers to Super Mario 64.

Good. I'll do that. Thanks!

Since I am not familiar with Mario Brothers, I suppose the following analogy will do just fine as well, right?

"Think of it was the original Tomb Raider to Tomb Raider: Legend".

I'll talk 2 U later when I have played the demos.

Thanks for your help!

I have had this game forever and now I'm finally playing it.

Not counting Dark Forces....
First: the first Jedi Knight changed my life; it was the first FPS/3rdPS that I loved.....the level design/ light sabers were great; it was so much better then FPS at that time {from my knowledge}. Its probably dated today but it is great an a fond memory.

Second: Jedi Outcast followed suite Great game.

The third game: Jedi Academy.....My computer could not run it properly though its not much better visually then JK Outcast.
Later as time went by, I got it for the Xbox. I started the game but couldn’t get used to the controls. When I went back to it I realized my brother saved over my game.......{this happened a few more times}.......

Now as of last week I decided to get back to it because of my affection for the first two games and its pretty good so far definitely worth getting.

But depending what system you get it for depending on PC or xbox......The xbox version switches into first person view when you pull a gun{ there might be an option to change that...I'll check}.

My main complaint is that on the Xbox you can't holster your light saber when you don't need it, this sounds small but you can do it on the Pc and this irritates me to no end, oh,well.
After the first set of missions the game picks up and turns into quality.

As for KOTAR: Greatness those games have made me a starwars fan. I like star wars because of these {JK} games but KOTAR I can't brag about enough.

Also if you haven’t played 'Jade Empire' it's made by Bioware the developer of KOTAR 1. It has stuff that I have never seen in a game before as far as level art and exotic characters.
It was released on the Xbox in 2005 but finally comes out on the Pc at the end of the month.....Definitely worth checking out.
