Looks careless, mean-spirited, and kind of disturbed.
I haven't seen the movie in whole (not that I want to) but judging by the reviews I have seen (yes, the NC is one of them) and the parts that are shown in them, it just comes off as dark, unsettling, unwelcoming, crude, irresponsible, idiotic, careless, disgruntled, and bitter. This isn't my mind being made up by these reviewers, they didn't even say some of what I said, these are my additions made by my own conclusions upon seeing these. The movie just has this uninviting, uncaring, and kind of off-putting feel to it. It gives off the impression it was made by someone with a very disturbed and perverted mind who did not care much for children, mask fans, and anyone in general who wishes to see this movie.
I kind of get the vibe of someone who is kind of a douchebag who does, well, douchey things, and is completely off-putting and unwelcoming. Like you see him do things, and he doesn't care, and if you tell him you don't like to see it, he just tells you to stop hanging around him. Now, normally one could just do that, but in this case it's like if that guy dressed up as a clown and went to put on a show at a birthday party, and his act consisted of blowing up a balloon animal, and then having a skit where he smacks beats up this balloon animal and it ends with him pulling off its head, and the kids voice their disapproval, and he says "Well, if you don't like it, GTFO!"
I mean seriously, who thought it would be a fun idea to have a baby want to drive his father insane to the point he ends up in a mental ward, and then the dog wants to murder the baby and turns in to a freaky monster in attempt to do so? Not to mention the imagery in this movie looking completely unwelcoming and not kid-friendly in the least. It's like the writer/director/photographer wanted to off-put kids. And also, who thought it would be a good idea to include wife-beating? I know it's supposed to be unintentional on his part, but even still, it presents it as if this is supposed to be funny. It would be one thing if he simply just smacked her and then realized it really was her, but he literally smashes her head on the floor, then strangles her, and, from what i hear, he realizes it's her after touching her boob. It just comes off as distasteful. A lot of this just kind of rubs one the wrong way.
This brings up another point. It's one thing to include innuendos or hidden adult humor, but this movie is completely blatant with inappropriate imagery, jokes, and events. The mask guy makes love to his wife, and it seems like you see his green sperm briefly. A better idea of putting dirty humor past the radar is a lot of those cartoons from the 90s. They actually knew how sneak a bunch of innuendos that completely go over kid's heads, but this movie does it in a way that is either blatant, or confuses kids to the point they will likely ask what the hell they just saw. Those cartoons would also be dark, harsh, and include dark imagery, but they did it in a way that was not off-putting, they were not irresponsible with it, and they weren't distasteful with it. Ren & Stimpy is a prime example. I don't even get why a couple scenes were deleted in one episode. They aren't that scary looking. Even I as a kid would not have been freaked out by that.
So yeah, I have never seen this movie in full, but I think I already have an idea what it's like. I do remember when the movie came out and was being advertised on TV; I was 13 at the time and mostly remember the guy trying to draw and then getting upset when the baby flung its food on his page. I am an artist, and thus that part I remember getting on my nerves. LOL If anyone has actually seen the movie in full and can clarify for me that things are not this bad, please do so. Granted I still would not watch the movie, but If I can have it better explained to me, maybe I might be a bit easier on it, but from what I have seen, it just feels weird, creepy, disturbed, and mean-spirited.
