nearly all the animations that come out gets rated at least 7.5
i undertand few animation movies that got rated high such as toy story 3 and ratatouille but like as i said ppl here love animations too much
and nearly all comedy movies are rated between 4-6.5
i think there are too many nerds or kids here who do not find comedy funny or just dont get the content.
im not sayin scary movie 4 is the best comedy movie out there but it surely deserves more than 5.0
I would agree it probably deserves a 7, but anyways the rating system on IMDB is perfectly flawed. I don't see how all genres are rated together when clearly the ratings have to take into consideration what genre the movie is. It's unfair for a movie such as memento for example to have a lower rating than Toy story 3 when they're all put in the same top 250 list.

To name a few animations that don't have, at the least, a rating of 7.5 (upon posting this).
And there are dozens of dozens of other examples, but these are simply the ones off the top of my head.
Don't think I'm bashing you or anything, because I agree with you, but with a broader opinion. I just want to prove the point that the rating system on IMDB is corrupt, but not just in the comedy genre, but with all of them.
How can a movie like Cinderella not have at least an 8.0 rating? It's a classic in animation, as is One Hundred and One Dalmatians.
The reason is, there are people that will watch the movies that don't like them, and down right hate them for no specific reason except that maybe they don't like dalmatians, therefore they give the movie a one. The same goes with comedies like Scary Movie 4.
Some movies do deserve the ratings they receive, but some don't. And in your opinion, Scary Movie 4 deserves a higher rating.
In all honesty, the reason this entire dilemma in the rating system occurs more often with comedy than animation is because it's easier to dislike a movie that's specifically trying to be funny for the sake of being funny, and people going in to these movies are expecting jokes that they'll like, and sometimes that just isn't the case. So they get pissed when it's crude humor and they only laugh at intelligent humor, or vice versa. And this applies to whatever else sort of humor.
It's not fair, but it's life. All you can do is give the movie the rating you think it deserves and be on your way.
I've also noticed that many posters on IMDb are very opinionated and only like Films. There are very few Comedy Films. The difference to me is that a film is artistic and must have merit other than entertainment. Movies just have to entertain. There are a lot of film snobs on IMDb, so there are a lot of low ratings for comedy movies on IMDb.

shareOh no the ratings perfectly fine, this type of thing always happens. A guy who likes the movie makes a "Why such a low score?" then of course the majority of replies are gonna be "I agree, the IMDB rating is screwed up it deserves at least a 7".Most people that visit this board to discuss it are gonna like it. I see this happen on nearly every board like Beverly Hills Cop 3, Stop or My Mom will Shoot etc but i saw the movie it really was crappy. Rotten Tomatoes give it a 37% it should be happy to get even 5.0.

shareComedy is the most subjective genre there is, no wonder its ratings are often contested, especially when the comedy is one that applies to quite narrow viewer audience
