Will Solondz ever do commentary?

No commentary ever! I wish he would.

"FRA-GEE-LAY. That must be Italian!"
"I think that says 'fragile', honey."

I don't think this movie will ever have any commentary because it was evident that the direct didn't know what he was doing. When the product was finished, and people started making a bunch of interpretations about it, I think the director thought it would be cruel to ruin a bunch of peoples ideas about the symbolism by adding commentary and in essence, telling people what he really meant. I think he just wants the ideas to run wild- all the while making it seem as though he is more creative and more 'deep' or insightful than he actually is. Besides, what would he possibly say? "Oh and the character of aviva I based off of a pre-teen sexual exploitation victim", "Oh, and the fat black chick is actually a prostitute I picked up from the alley the night before", "Oh, and the guy earl is a fellow addict I got from my child molesters annonymous support group", exct.

Yeah I think these kinds of films deserve a commentary.

I don't know.... Solondz's films are so straightforward and overflowing with humanity that a commentary track might cheapen them.

Yeah, I totally agree here.

His films often show completely unambiguous narrative, with characters so ambiguous and raw, that to explain them would completely ruin the film.

One of the most satisfying parts of a Solondz film is thinking about it afterward, and trying to form opinions about characters.

However, the Tartan DVD release has a really good booklet inside with a few pages of Solondz's notes on the film. They say everything that needs to be said. Much of it is apparent in watching the film, but it's interesting to hear the thought that went into it.
Without wanting to rise to Obvious-troll above, Todd Solondz is a director who most definitely DOES know what he's doing, it's just that he understands that the world makes very little sense, and that practically nothing is black and white, and so shouldn't be represented as such.
