some questions

so i actually liked this movie, as i watched welcome to the dollhouse right before it.

k i've read through the boards and i kinda get the idea but people are saying different things. is the reason for different actresses to show that she could basically be any girl, but still the same person in the end? or as some people say it was just to mess with the viewer.

why the hell does mark look like he's middle aged? i didn't think someone would be THAT old looking in just like 15 years or whatever?

why is missy such a biatch? like was mark actually a pedophile?

AND FINALLY. after the shooting of bob or whatever, how did aviva get back home? from the police? was she questioned about anything? how did she stay intouch with the sunshine family?

sorry if i sound a little noobish, i just want to fully understand. and please don't be mean.

OK, I'll bite:

1) Solondz himself said that the different actresses (and actor) represent different aspects of Aviva's character, that it gives greater depth and insight into her person, and if you see the movie more than once you really begin to see how it works well--you start to think of her as "one person" eventually. Also the director is subversive and would like to keep your attention and make you think (or just plain shock) if possible.

2) I think Mark looks like he's middle aged because the ACTOR does, if you've seen some of his other pictures...yikes

3) Missy was like Aviva's mom--her irrational fears and lack of greater knowledge of the world make her a scared and judgmental person who reacts rather than reasons

4)Being a minor Aviva was probably returned to the custody of her parents after it was all over, and since only the dad was blamed for the incident with the doctor. She probably could've stayed in touch with the Mama Sunshine and the kids--it seemed she really, really wanted to anyway. She probably made her parents help her (since after the abortion/running away they were probably doing just about anything she asked to make her happy).

Hope that helps!
