I can't see someone reaching the age of 10 in Arkansas and never seeing a tornado. For some reason, tornados seem to always at night here but there is still no way you could go over 3 or 4 years w/o seeing one.
Also for those who have never been through a storm that would produce a tornado, the film gives the event little justtice.
In the book, Luke is only 7, so his memory doesn't go back more than a couple of years. I suspect they made him 10 in the movie because finding such a young actor good enough to carry a film would be extremely difficult.
I have seen enough to know I have seen too much.
I live in Arkansas. I've yet to see a real tornado like in the book and I'm in my mid 30s. I hope and pray I never see one either.
