first movie ever is

ROUNDHAY GARDEN SCENE
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0392728/

1888

reply

I think the IMDB did exist when the Roundhay Garden Scene was produced, but it was very much in its infancy and the connection speeds were abominable.

reply

That is correct.

In fact, the connection speeds varied. Because in order to transfer data from IMDB to a person, little mice ran through a tube, carrying small pieces of a printed paper card. Once in a while, a mouse would die from exhaustion, causing packetloss. Consequently, other mice would run back, causing a delivery failure.
When a transfer succeeded (ie. all mice arrived), the pieces were reassembled into a readable IMDB page.

Very much in its infancy, indeed.

You're such a liar. Everyone knows they used rats.

reply

Can you really call this or ROUNDHAY GARDEN SCENE
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0392728/ a 'movie'? there are lots of things on IMDb that are definately not movies. From one review I read (I havent seen it) this is more like a slideshow. does anyone know the oldest 'real' movie on IMDb or the oldest actor? Movie as in moving picture. doesnt have to be a talkie.

The first ever films for about ten years look like something you find in some one's camera phone, they are short & really not that exciting. Does any one know what the first feature film was?

reply

[deleted]

First feature film = a ned kelly movie made around 1906. No sound but its about an hour long. No longer exists. Not sure of the name, mabye the kelly gang or just ned kelly.

These cartoons are truly bizarre and frightening!

I wonder if the thought ever occurred to the people in the movies from the 1890's-1900's that people would be watching them, looking at them, over 100 years later, long after they are gone.
