shareSmart? Funny? Good life lessons? Stacy seems kind of sad and pathetic all through the movie, even at the end. Maybe it's just Brittany Murphy that's cringe inducing and not the character... This movie reminded me of Chris Rock's bit about irrational competition: "She's trying to destroy me!!"
shareYes i stand by all what i said! I thought she was funny! I dont even understand how people like you talk negative about things. I mean I dont go and look up things just so i can talk shyt. I talk about things i'm interested in. Plus its time consuming
shareIf a woman like Stacey existed, she shouldn't b having a relationship. There is probably a word for this situation, but this very weird woman actually eventuall;y AGREES with sumone that she barely knows that it's alright to look into your boyfriend's past and see if he's cheating just cuz she finds out that he once dated a supermodel and he wont talk about it.
If all girls did wot Stacey did, you'd never hav a relationship. Never!
By the way, I am a guy.
I just saw it, and for me, it was very depressing. Stacy showed that she has no self-confidence and no trust in her boyfriend; Barb is a user/back-stabber and should come with a warning sign that says, "Everything you say WILL be used against you!". To be honest, I was surprised that a woman wrote this because it portrayed just about all of the women in a terrible light. A shrew of a talk-show host, a purging model, a self-absorbed doctor, and the only one who you feel SOME amount of sympathy for was Joyce.
shareThis movies shows that even if things get so *beep* for a person something amazing still can happen. Stacy finally got to her dream job and met Carly Simon, the woman who helped her through rough times in her life.
shareI loved this film. I was never a fan of Brittany Murphy, but her spunk, charm and comedic timing won me over. I fell for her hook, line and sinker in this film.
And I loved the realism of the film. Totally turned out unexpectedly and still managed to have some hilarious moments.
And the "twist" really left me astounded. I never saw it coming. And with repeated viewings, (cos I own the dvd, and watch it regularly too) you can see subtle looks and nuances from Holly Hunter's character that shows her mind was devious from the beginning.
Loved it!
And I'm a guy too!

I totally agree. I loved this movie too. During the movie there were some funny moments and the overall story was quite nice. And the twist was very well written. I actually see this as a feel good movie, because in the end everything turns out great for Stacy. I didn't find it depressing at all. Definitely a movie I would watch several times.
shareI loved it too!
Well, okay, almost everything up until the ending had me cringing with sympathy embarrassment for Stacy, but the complete 180 the film took in regards to the NORMAL ending for a romantic comedy made it all worth it.
I just finished watching it (finally) and it was cute! Loved it. My daughter has been bugging me for ages to watch it with her but I've always said no...simply because I don't care for Brittany Murphy but I was wrong, she was great in it.
A real chick flick, that's for sure! Loved the ending too.

I ended up liking it. I watched about half of the DVD on my usual video night, and thought it was somewhat disappointing, even if I hadn't that high an expectation for it going in. I thought, "Well, I may go back to this, and I may not." For one thing I found Brittany Murphy cute but annoying, and flatulent-animal jokes put me off. On the other hand I found Holly Hunter very hot (I'm a straight male, by the way) and I liked the scene where the two of them were dancing to the Carly Simon song from "Working Girl." I went back to the movie the next night mainly hoping the two of them at some point would start making out.
However, somewhere along watching the second half, the movie clicked for me. I think I was expecting a more conventional Romantic comedy, with emphasis on comedy. Then I thought, "OK, this is more of an indie type movie," and approached it from that end. (As someone once wrote, "indie comedy" generally translates as "mildly amusing.") But then I really liked the way everything had been set up for the wild, switcheroos-within-switcheroo climax, and (SPOILER ALERT! SPOLIER ALERT!) when the Murphy character, in just a few minutes, loses both her boyfriend and her two best friends--particularly the Julianne Nicholson character, whose look of hurt and shame and anger was heart-breaking--I was genuyine affected by it. And the scene in the office at the end (another "Working Girl" riff, but with another switcheroo, this one very funny) was great.
So I would advise anyone who starts watching the movie to stay with it.

yes, It would be nice to have a happy ending, watching this movie just makes me sad tho.
I agree with you, Kawaii. This will go down in film history as Brittany Murphy's best role. And, my belated condolences to all her family and friends.
shareThis movie was fun. Pure entertainment. Silly, funny, and just long enough. Satisfactory ending. What more can you ask of a movie?
shareI liked it too. I was really surprised by all the negative comments posted here.
